We are members of J.R.T.C.A., Jack Russell Terrier Club of America.  Jack Russell pups are registered on their own merit when they reach 1 year of age.  They are thoroughly checked by a licensed veterinarian for any health or genetic issues.  Three non-digital pictures are taken of the pup; one of each side view and one of a front (to verify structural soundness and quality for breeding).  The pictures, a 2 page signed veterinarian exam form, stud certificate signed by the owner of the stud, and 5 generation pedigree are submitted for registration.   If a puppy is not accepted for registration, submission of proof that the puppy has been spayed or neutered will allow the puppy to be recorded and participate in the J.R.T.C.A. activities but not bred. 

All pups produced by A.K.C registered parents may and usually are registered shortly after birth as a litter.  No veterinary examination or photos are required prior to registration.   

 We feel that J.R.T.C.A. requirements help to ensure that only dogs with good bites, good joints, and good health in general will be bred and therefore more likely to produce healthy puppies.  This helps keep the breed healthier.  

We go further yet and BAER and annually CERF test all our breeding stock.  BAER is Brain Auditory Evoked Response testing.  Electrodes are placed below the skin in the head region and a 'click' stimulus is directed down the ear canal using a small earphone.  The electrical activity is displayed on the computer screen.   Without a BAER test you would probably not know if you had a dog that was deaf in one ear.

CERF testing is done annually to check for any eye issues or blindness.
